Rock Band Owns My Life!

Hey there fellow lovers of Jesus and of rock! Like I said, I am going to try to get an update out each Tuesday so keep an eye out for it (Not literally… I don’t want you to remove your eyeballs from their sockets… that’s just disgusting). Anyway, as most of you know, my life is being consumed by a little game called “Rock Band”. I have lost much sleep trying to maintain life as usual while moonlighting as a rock star. For those of you who don’t know of this marvel, it is the game “Guitar Hero” on herbal enhancements (No game of mine is going to be using illegal steroids! I leave that to the baseball games.. *cough*). I’m sure we will play much of it at our various events.

Speaking of events, this week is a tad low key after the whirlwind that was the “Busiest Week EVAR” and the Thanksgiving holiday (My stomach will never be the same).  Wednesday night class is at 7:30 this week and features the amazing Dan Thibodeau and his innovative presentations of merriment and delight. Our Thursday night devotional (featuring the loverly Rock Band! Woot!) will be at 6:30 in the Allen Street House as per usual. Check the calendar featured on this very site for upcoming events!

Finally, I want to plug teen winter camp. They have been doing great things up at MCYC so, even if you’ve had negative experiences in the past, you’re sure to enjoy yourself. Winter Camp is January 11th to the 13th. It is being presented by my good friends from Rochester College. New this year to camp is different inflatables each week, gladiator jousting, and sumo wrestling. Teen Winter Camp features the rock band Salient (yes! rock!). You can check them out at http://www.shoutlife.com/salient. The cost of $75 is due Sunday, December 9th. Let me know if you’d like to come but lack the funds. I have some great memories from winter camp and I want you to have the same.

Busiest Week EVAR 2007

in @ 12:24 am

We are upon what is possibly the busiest week of the year. Monday’s concert was a lot of fun. We rocked out and helped a fantastic cause, Habitat for Humanity. It’s too bad more of you couldn’t join us. There will be more opportunities like this in the future, of course. Last night a few of us did some ridiculous raking to help out a couple very appreciative church members. To those who were there, thank you very much for your assistance!

The busiest week EVAR continues with tomorrow’s weekly teen class and church devotional starting at 7:30. Thursday evening, we will meet at the Allen Street House for another night of games, fellowship, and Bible study.  Friday, the hammer of entertainment falls with a lock-in at the Northeast Church of Christ. To quote my last post:

“We will be meeting at the Northeast Church of Christ (9 mile, near Gratiot) at 9:00p. The cost (for food, etc.) is $10. Bring a change of warm, outdoor clothes. We will be taking part in some outdoor, physical activities that will require getting sweaty. You can bring pillows, blankies, teddies, etc. but we require that you do not sleep. We will be having a Halo 3 tournament so bring along extra 360 controllers, 360 systems if you’d like, and copies of Halo 3. We will also be having a couple card tournaments, guitar hero, board games, a movie, and various fun-filled activities. You will have plenty of free time in addition to the more structured activities. We will be finishing up around 7:00a. I hope to see as many as possible attend this event.  ”

I understand that you are all very busy so don’t put any of this above your responsibilites. I want to give you as many options as possible to enjoy time with each other and grow closer to the Lord. Contact me with any questions you have about this week’s events and keep on eye on this site and the various calendars for any changes that might occur. As long as Ely stops having babies, everything should go as planned.

You know what we haven’t played in forever? Well, besides basketball… and hockey… paintball… and poker… Still haven’t guessed? It’s WALLYBALL! Not partaking in the glorious sport of wallyball has left me with a gaping hole in my spirit and tonight, that hole will be filled! We will be playing at Player’s Athletic Club (11 Mile, just south of Schoenherr) at 7:00p. The cost is $3. If you can drive others or need a ride (call ahead for a ride), meet at my house no later than 6:30p. Contact me with any questions that you might have. PEACE!

Look at this intensity! Do you really want to miss a night of Wallyball?

Lock-in @ Northeast Postponed!

Life can change rather quickly and unexpectedly! No more than a minute or two after posting the information for the lock-in at Northeast, I regret to inform you all that the lock-in has to be postponed. The good news is that the fun is only postponed and that Ely will be a father for the 3rd time in the next couple days! Ely’s wife was induced to give birth last night!

Keep checking this space, the church bulletin, and the youth group board in the church lobby for further updates on the lock-in. I am going to be calling everyone today. We will discuss the possibility of alternate plans for tonight. PEACE!

I know… I could have posted this information earlier. However, there was a little scare in planning this event as my friend Ely might be having a baby (well… not him specifically… but his wife… ahhh… you know what I mean)! The lock-in will still go on as intended. We will be meeting at the Northeast Church of Christ (9 mile, near Gratiot) at 9:00p.

The peeps at Northeast are great and if you have not had the pleasure, you will enjoy getting to know them. Contact me, John the youth guy, if you have any further questions.
