Fallfest 2008

Hello there kiddos and associated parental folks!

I wanted to share a little information with you all regarding Fallfest 2008. I have decided that we need to at least check out Fallfest this year. As such, I am taking a group to sample the event. This is not a church sponsored event, meaning that all costs will be taken care of by the people going. I know that everyone is struggling with finances these days. As such, I will not be offended if you are unable to attend Fallfest. I also don’t want anyone to be offended if they are unable to attend for financial reasons. If you would like to go and can’t afford to, I will make an attempt to find the money. If everyone enjoys Fallfest, I will organize more fund raising and the church will sponsor future trips.

For those of you who don’t know, Fallfest is a lot like Winterfest (but on a smaller scale… for now). It takes place at the Sheraton North-Cincinnati. Jeff Walling, a wonderful speaker, will be there as well as music from Mercury Rising and drama from Unbound. My brother-in-law and the rest of his amazing singing group, Deeper Still, will be taking care of the worship. Fallfest takes place from October 10 to 12. We will be leaving early on Friday morning and returning in the evening on Sunday. We will be staying in the Sheraton, which looks to be a really nice hotel. Saturday, when not in sessions for Fallfest, we will head to King’s Island for a day of rides and such. The cost for the trip, while seemingly insurmountable, is actually rather affordable. 2 nights stay at the Sheraton, a ticket to King’s Island, registration for Fallfest, and $20 each day for food equals $169/person. I need $109 by September 14. Otherwise, you will need to pay an extra $5 for registration and I can’t guarantee a hotel room. For more information on Fallfest, check out their web site at http://www.fallfestcincinnati.org. I hope everyone that wants to can make it. If not, remember there is always much more going on, including Winterfest 2009! Let me know your decision AS SOON AS HUMANLY POSSIBLE!!!

Regular Updates? HA! HA! HA! FOOLED YOU!

My apologies for not updating this web site more often. I truly hope there are at least a scrappy group of survivors, “Lost” style, out there reading this. Well, August has been an incredible month. We had an amazing time on the annual canoe trip. There was actually a bit of water in the river this time around and the number of crazy rebels with certain beverages and squirt cannons was surprisingly low. The church’s canoe trip is really starting to become a youth group trip with lots of other people in the mix. I think it is amazing that so many of you made the trip! Hopefully even more can make it next year! WOOOOO!!!

And, despite the loss of our trip to Pennsylvania, we had a fantastic time in ‘ol Michigan. Yes Michigan the freedom forever!!! (it’s from a commercial, allow me to sing it for you sometime) For those of you who missed, our schedule was as follows:

Mon. – Racquetball and a movie

Tue. – Canoeing in Ann Arbor

Wed. – Allen St. House painting, “Summer Nights at the Snail Hut”, and Appletizers at the ‘Bees

Thur. – Allen St. House painting and God’s Helping Hands

Fri. – Toledo Zoo, Sonic’s, and a movie

Sat. – MORE PAINTING!

Sun. – Bonfire at the Kerschenheiters’

Thanks to everyone who participated and made the week a success! There is still work to be done on the Allen St. house but what we have so far looks fantastic! You all did a lot of great work! The summer has closed but we still have more activities planned for the coming months. Friday, September 12, we will be taking a group to “Comedy for a Cause” at Woodside Bible Church. Saturday, October 11, we are headed to Clutch Cargo’s in Pontiac for a Relient K show. Someone in there will hopefully be another lock-in at the YMCA. Keep checking the site, the church bulletin, and the kiosk in the church lobby for an updated list of events.

I want to see more of you at our Tuesday night devotionals! We meet at 6:30 every week for games, food, and hopefully a little prayer and study. It’s only a couple hours from your busy schedules and I know you will enjoy it! If you want to see any changes to the Tuesday night program (i.e. more trips, more sports, more video games, more time for study), please let me know! That’s all for now. If you need anything, please feel free to call or e-mail me! I am always looking for a few new friends on Facebook/Myspace as well.

Eric Jamieson wants to see more of you at Roseville Youth Group events! Just look at how much fun he's having!

Regular Posts, the Return!

Well, it’s too late to apologize. It’s too laaaaaaate… No more can I say I’m sorry for not posting regularly. All I can do is try to do my best to be more consistent from now on. With that mess out of the way, I can continue along my merry path of updating. I truly want all of you to try to be involved in more youth group activities. If you need a ride, I can try to provide that. If you need funds, I can try to provide that. I just want to see this youth group be a success and that will only happen through your participation. If you haven’t spent much time with the group or would like to start, might I recommend our Tuesday night devotionals. They have the same bold flavor as Thursday night classes, but come in new space age packaging. We are going to meet at 6:30 for a short devotional and then toss in a heaping helping of sports, video games, movies, pizza, etc.

For those of you going to the Pennsylvania, I need a commitment ASAP. I still need $35 for the price of admission to Hershey Park. I want to get tickets ordered before we leave for the canoe trip. Also, try to bring some cash for at least a couple meals. We might not be in a place where the church can provide food at all times. Finally, we will only go to the aforementioned Purple Door Music Festival if there is enough interest. The price of admission is $40 and it should be an amazing time. Those who don’t want to go to the festival will have alternate activities planned for them. Well, I guess that is all I have to tell you for now. Call or write me with any further questions!

Class Canceled Tonight… I Feel Like Such a Failure!

Hey there kiddos! I am really slipping with the web site updates. Well, the plans for the rest of the summer are really starting to gel. I am going to need everyone’s help with Vacation Bible Experience (VBE). We are looking for guides to help out throughout the week as well as people to decorate, act in little sketches, and sing. Contact me, your old pal John Wriston, if you are interested in helping out. VBE, if you’ve forgotten, takes place July 20 to the 24th. It’s always a fun time and it’s a good service to the tiny children. We will get started with decorating, and a little canvasing, on July 15.

The Pennsylvania trip is also starting to take shape. We will be going from August 11 to the 17th. We will be performing various acts of service for the church and the community in Lewistown, PA. We will also be visiting Hershey Park and the Purple Door Christian Music Festival in Lewisberry, PA. The initial $35 for the trip is due Sunday, July 20 (The first day of VBE!). There will be at least one fund raising event held before the trip to PA to curb the costs for everyone. Pay attention to this web site, the church bulletin, and church announcements for further details regarding the trip.

My final piece of news is bitter sweet. I have to cancel class tonight as Sara’s family is in town for the wedding of Sara’s cousin. I will also not be able to spend the 4th of July with any of you as that is the date for the wedding. It should be an interesting weekend for all involved. We will be getting together on Tuesday for Wallyball, Applebees and possibly a $1 movie. Contact me if you are interesting in coming to any of that. I hope you all have a wonderful and patriotic weekend. God bless!

God bless America… Our home sweeeeeeeet hoooooooome!!! *sniff*

The Lost Update

June 10, 2008 0

in @ 3:55 pm

Wow! It’s been a loooooong time since I’ve updated this site. I think I say that every time I put up an update. Things have been a little crazy around here with summer plans and my big vacation to Florida coming up. It’s going to be so unbelievably hot in Florida! They are averaging like 15 degrees higher than us this week! Oh well… I’m sure it will be a good time. I will miss all of you, but we will have plenty of time together for the rest of the summer.

Our first summer outing will be a trip to Cedar Point on June 30. The cost for attendance is $35. This will cover your ticket and transportation. The money is due by June 22. You can give it to Doug Allen or one of the elders.

We are also planning to head back to Pennsylania for another mission trip. This time, we will be assisting the Lewistown Church of Christ with their annual vacation Bible school. Last year’s trip was a great time of fun, service, and good old bonding. It was the origin of many different fantastic stories. Anyone is welcome to come. The initial $25 for the trip is due July 6. This will count as your commitment to the trip.

If anyone reads this in the next couple hours, we are playing basketball at my house at 7:00p. There will also be a class on Thursday. We will be beginning out summer devotional series at this time. I hope to see you all soon!

An Alternative Thursday Night

Hello there internet loving peoples! I hope this doesn’t anger any of you too greatly, but I have decided that we should go see the newest Indiana Jones movie tonight. I have been a big fan of the Indiana Jones movies for quite some time and I discovered that the Wilson family shares this love. I don’t know exactly what theatre we are off to or what time we will be seeing the movie, but anyone who desires is welcome to join us. If you are interested, give me a call tomorrow before 5:00p. I can give a few of you a ride if it is needed. Well, I don’t suppose there is anything else to note at the moment. Final plans for the Pennsylvania trip will be revealed soon as well as plans for the rest of the summer. Keep an eye here for all the cuh-razy details!

Indiana Jones, Crystal Skulls, etc.

Whip it! Whip it good!

Quick Friday Night Note: The Sequel

HEYYYYYY KIDS!!!!

It’s me again, your old pal John-o the clown! I’m here to tell you about a awesome little event happening at Woodside Bible Church in Troy, Michigan tonight at 7pm.  It’s called “Comedy for a Cause”. Admission is free! A love offering is taken for ‘Promise Village’, a local home for children that specializes in the care of abused, neglected, and troubled children. As well as hearing the stories of a couple kids that have been helped by the program, there will be performances from Ron Pearson and Taylor Mason. Ron Pearson has been featured on a number of different sitcoms. He is not only a comedian, but apparently a world record holding juggler. Taylor Mason, who we were able to see last year, is absolutely amazing. He has a number of different puppet characters and is a great piano player. I am always skeptical about people with puppets, but Taylor Mason is really impressive.

Because of the short notice of this event, I don’t think we will be able to provide transportation. We are leaving my house at around 5:15, so give me a call at around 4:00 if you’d like to come and I will see what I can do to find a ride for you. It’s possible that a couple more cars will be driving to the event with us. I hope to see you there!

Quick Friday Night Note

in @ 4:45 pm

Hello everyone!

It’s Friday at 5:30 and no one has expressed interest in the HOGWild improv. comedy show. I am sorry if it was short notice. I only discovered that the show costs $10 a few days ago. Instead, Sara, I, and at least a couple others are headed out to see our own Stephanie Surginer in “Bye Bye Birdie”. The show is at 7:30 and located in Schaublin Auditorium at Lakeview High School in Saint Clair Shores. Tickets are $12 for adults and $9 for students and seniors. If I don’t see you there, I hope to see you Sunday!

Also, if you are interested, Andrea Thibodeau is performing in Brahms’ German Requiem as part of the Rochester Community Chorus. The show is tomorrow, Saturday, at 8:00p. It takes place at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church in Rochester, MI and the cost is $15. God bless!

They Sold Their Souls…

6:00 pmto9:00 pm

Heeeeeelllllllooooo Roseville peeps!!!! I just wanted to write up a little update about what is going on for the rest of the week. Thursday, we are headed to the Grosse Pointe War Memorial to attend a presentation entitled “They Sold Their Souls for Rock and Roll”. This multi-media seminar looks at the history of popular music, including modern trends. The presenter, Pastor Schimmel of ‘Fight the Good Fight Ministries’, will be examining the life styles and lyrics of some of the most successful artists. Even if you don’t agree with everything Pastor Schimmel has to say, this presentation will at least get a dialog going and help us begin to consider the music that we listen to. The event starts at 7:00p. Everyone who needs a ride can meet at my house at 6:00p.

This weekend, we head to Canada for the youth rally at Great Lakes Christian College. Everyone coming should pack enough clothing for the weekend, sleeping stuff, toiletries, and a Bible. It is going to be an exciting weekend and I truly hope that more of you will be able to join us when we attend this event next year. We will be meeting at my house as early as you can make it over. We will leave as soon as everyone gets here so don’t keep us waiting! We will be back on Sunday afternoon, so make arrangements for transportation if needed.

Elvis!

Come and see what I’m really all about, you hunk of burning love. Hi ya! Hunh!

Crazy Week (Class Canceled)

April 10, 2008 0

in @ 12:46 pm

This has been a bit of a crazy week for me. I started out the week being a bit sick and it threw off the rest of the week. Sorry that this post is arriving so late in the week. Unfortunately, I have to cancel tonight’s class. I have a prior engagement that I could not reschedule. Use tonight to catch up on school work and reflect upon the great mysteries of life. We will resume meeting again next week. If anyone would like to get together for some wally-ball, bowling, or other fun activity on Tuesday, give me a call and I will get something organized. Hopefully, I will get to see some of you at Holly’s wedding tomorrow!

A new event for the busy month of April has come to my attention. For those who went last year, you can remember the great time we had at “Even God Giggles Comedy Theatre” in Wyandotte. April 25th at 8p we will be visiting once again to see HOGwild comedy, an improv comedy crew. I will give you further details on the website, in the church bulletin, and in class on Sunday.

Side note for the peeps going to Canada next weekend: Hopefully you’ve given me your final answer if you are going to Canada for the youth rally. We have reached crunch time and I am at the point where I need to figure out if I need to get more transportation. Currently, we can fit in one van. However, if even one more person decides to come, we will have to obtain another vehicle for the trip.

Finally, for those of you out there interested in playing paint-ball, a group of people from the church are getting together this Saturday to play. Call or e-mail me if you would like to come. We are going to Red Run, so get some bug spray and liquid refreshment. If you absolutely can’t afford air or paint, tell me and I will see what I can do.

Matt Perry Paintball!

I have no idea why cutting out someone’s face and pasting it on another body entertains me so…
